The Seattle Kraken hosted the Vegas Golden Knights on Thursday night for their third matchup of the season after the Kraken had won the previous two games. The Golden Knights scored in the first period and struck again early in the second for a two-goal lead, but the Kraken scored a power-play goal before an early third-period goal from Vegas restored their two-goal lead.
The Kraken scored two unanswered goals to tie the game and force overtime, and the contest was eventually decided in a shootout. Vegas scored first before the Kraken evened it up. It took five rounds before the next goal was scored to give the Kraken a 4-3 victory.
McCann Found Success on the Power Play
Late in the second, the Kraken earned their only power-play opportunity of the game after Mark Stone was called for a hook on Jordan Eberle. With a minute left of the man advantage, Chandler Stephenson had the puck at the blue line and passed it to Vince Dunn, who sent it to Jared McCann in the face-off circle to his right. McCann took the slap shot and sent the puck past Golden Knights goaltender Adin Hill to get on the board.
This goal was McCann’s 20th of the season. In five seasons with the Kraken, McCann has never scored less than 20 goals in a campaign, and his first 20-goal season was in Seattle. However, he has only played 51 games in 2025-26 due to injury.
Catton With an All-Time Effort
Despite being down by two goals, just five minutes after the Golden Knights scored their third, the Kraken got to work. Adam Larsson dumped the puck into the Kraken’s zone, and Berkly Catton picked it up while Hill was out of the net and had a wide-open shot to bring the Kraken within one. Catton also scored the second goal in the shootout to ensure the Kraken’s victory.
His third-period marker was Catton’s seventh of the season. He has 17 points through 62 games for a solid rookie campaign in the NHL.
Kraken Didn’t Call It Quits
A loss last night would have officially eliminated the Kraken from the 2026 Stanley Cup Playoffs. When asked about his team’s performance, head coach Lane Lambert stated, “I thought we battled back. I thought we battled hard. We got a fortuitous bounce obviously, which helped, but certainly, I’ve said in the past, and we’ve had some disallowed goals and things like that that have kind of gone against us lately, but it was nice to get a break.”

Seattle would need to win all four of their final games with no team above them winning any to clinch the second wild-card spot in the Western Conference. More likely, they will miss the playoffs for the third straight season, and their fourth time since joining the league five seasons ago. The good news is that the team battled hard for the win, even with the postseason out of reach.
Kraken Back on Saturday
The Kraken host the Calgary Flames on Saturday at 4:00 PM PT and then the LA Kings on Monday. They will close out their season with back-to-back road games, first a rematch against the Golden Knights on April 15, and then against the Colorado Avalanche on April 16.
