3 Takeaways From the Seattle Torrent’s 5-2 Loss to the Sceptres – The Hockey Writers –

by Marcelo Moreira

On Friday, Feb. 27, the Seattle Torrent hosted the Toronto Sceptres for their third matchup of the 2025-26 Professional Women’s Hockey League (PWHL) season. Heading into this game, the Torrent were up 2-0 in the season series.

Just 28 seconds into the first period, the Sceptres got on the board. It wasn’t until the final seconds of the first that the Torrent tied up the game. The Sceptres took an early lead in the second, but again, in the last moments of the period, the Torrent evened the score. The third period was all Toronto, though, as the Sceptres scored three goals without the Torrent increasing their goal total. The Sceptres leave the game with their first win against Seattle, 5-2, but the Torrent still have the lead in the season series.

Two Torrent Players Scored Their First Goals of the Season

Although the Sceptres scored five times, the Torrent managed to get on the board twice.

The Sceptres struck within the first minute of the game, but the Torrent answered back in the final few seconds. Julia Gosling passed the puck across the ice for Danielle Serdachny, but she sent it to Aneta Tejralova in the front of the net. With 12 seconds left on the clock, she sent the puck into the empty space that Raygan Kirk allowed to put the Torrent on the board.

With a minute and change left in the second period, Tejralova stole the puck from Natalie Spooner in Toronto’s zone and passed it down the boards for Jessie Eldridge. She passed the puck to Alex Carpenter in the neutral zone. She skated it up to the net and took a shot, but it was blocked by Kirk. Natalie Snodgrass picked up the rebound and sent it past the goal line to even the score once more.

Both Tejralova and Snodgrass played their first two PWHL seasons with the Ottawa Charge. They were acquired by Seattle in the 2025 Expansion Draft. What a great chance for both players to score their first goal with their new team.

Torrent Missing Key Players in Return Game

The Torrent were down Hilary Knight and Hannah Bilka in their return game from the Olympic break. Both players were members of Team USA and sustained injuries during the Olympic Games. The Torrent placed Knight on long-term injured reserve (LTIR), and no timeline was given for either player.

Two strong pillars on the team make for a tough loss, but this is a team made up of great players; they’ll find a way to fight through the absence of Knight and Bilka. It is unfortunate they were dealt these injuries on the international stage, but the opportunity to represent their country on Olympic ice in the 2026 Games is something they will never forget, especially after bringing home the gold medal.

Seattle Broke the Record… Again

At the Torrent’s home opener on Nov. 28, 2025, 16,014 fans packed the stands to watch their new professional team take to the ice. This attendance number set a new record for the largest attendance of a women’s hockey game. This number was later broken on Jan. 18 in Washington, D.C., when 17,228 fans arrived at Capital One Arena to watch the New York Sirens and the Montréal Victoire face off at a Takeover Tour game.

This game took those records and shattered them once more, as 17,335 fans sold out Climate Pledge Arena for the first time in Torrent history. Seattle once again holds the record for the most fans at a professional women’s hockey game.

This record-breaking attendance comes just after the Olympic break, when the demand and attention for women’s hockey have skyrocketed. StubHub has stated ticket sales for PWHL games have jumped 50% following the Olympics performance. The demand for the game has never been higher. The uptick of views on the free YouTube streams has been impressive as well. The PWHL is riding the momentum from the Olympics, and the growth has been incredible.

Torrent Back on Wednesday

The Torrent will rest and regroup before facing Ottawa on Wednesday, March 4, looking to bounce back.
