The Yankees suffered a rare loss to the Twins on Tuesday, falling 7-0, after New York went 6-0 and averaged six runs per game against the Twins last year. New York opened this year with back-to-back victories, scoring 15 runs in those contests, against the Twins before a 4-1 loss to snap their multi-season winning streak. Despite being shut out on Tuesday, the Yankees have the No. 1 scoring offense in baseball, averaging 5.16 runs per game, and Aaron Judge has four home runs over his last five games. The Twins are scheduled to start Zebby Matthews, who allowed five runs over 4 2/3 innings against the Angels on September 9, and the 28-year-old has a 5.06 ERA this season. The model projects the Over to hit in 55.9% of simulations in a 7:10 p.m. ET start.
Mariners (-144) to defeat the Royals
The Mariners are one of the best stories in baseball at the moment, riding a league-high nine-game winning streak and climbing over the Texas Rangers atop the American League West standings. Seattle leads Texas by a half-game, and the Rangers are three games out of the AL Wild Card, so winning the AL West is crucial for reaching the postseason. The Mariners defeated the Angels, 11-2, on Sunday to wrap their four-game sweep. Logan Gilbert, who has allowed one run in each of his last two starts and in three of his last four outings, starts for the Mariners against the Royals, who are 75-75 on the season. The model projects value on Seattle’s winning streak to continue, projecting the Mariners to win in 60% of simulations.
Phillies vs. Dodgers Over 7.5 total runs (-105)
These two teams combined for 11 runs on Monday in the Phillies’ 6-5 10-inning victory over the Dodgers in a matchup of two top-10 offenses. The Dodgers are second in baseball at 5.11 runs per game, while the Phillies are eighth at 4.86 runs per game this season. Both teams are starting strong options on the mound in Ohtani vs. Sanchez, but with both lineups filled with star power such as Bryce Harper, Kyle Schwarber, Freddie Freeman and Ohtani with the bat as well, the model projects enough offense to hit this Over. Ohtani hasn’t pitched more than five innings this season, as he’s still being ramped up following Tommy John surgery. The model projects the Over to hit in 69.2% of simulations for this 10:10 p.m. ET start.
