Heading into the final game on Thursday, Feb. 5, before the Winter Olympic break, the Carolina Hurricanes were looking to add to their nine-game point streak. Furthermore, they were hoping to push their winning streak to three games against the New York Rangers. However, the biggest news of the day came about three hours from puck drop. Forward Seth Jarvis got the call everyone was hoping for. On Thursday afternoon, Jarvis found out that he will be a Canadian Olympian.

Seth Jarvis Is an Olympian

The news came out on Thursday afternoon that Tampa Bay Lightning’s Brayden Point will miss the Winter Olympics in Milano-Cortina, after receiving an injury in his last game. That led Hockey Canada to pivot to Jarvis of the Hurricanes, who was initially a reserve player in case of injury. While playing in 49 of the Hurricanes’ 57 games due to injury, Jarvis leads the team in goals (25), is sixth in assists (18), and is tied for third in points (43). He also leads the team in shorthanded goals (three), game-winning goals (six), and is tied for first in overtime goals (two).

He recently scored two goals against the Ottawa Senators on Tuesday, Feb. 3, just two days after his birthday, to push his goal total to 25 on the season. It’s the third consecutive season where he has tallied at least 25 goals. He scored 33 in 2023-24 and 32 in 2024-25, respectively. Jarvis has been otherworldly for the Hurricanes when he is on the ice, and has more than deserved the opportunity to represent Canada at the Winter Olympics. He played for Team Canada at the 4-Nations Face-Off in February 2025, and now he will be playing on the biggest stage for international hockey for the first time.

During the first intermission of the Hurricanes’ 2-0 win over the Rangers, he told reporter Hanna Yates, “I’m super honored… To be able to play at the highest level, on a stage like this, is everyone’s dream.” To go from missing the World Juniors to playing in the 4-Nations to now being on the Olympic stage at 23 years old; what a journey it’s been for Jarvis, who has become a face of the Hurricanes franchise and a fan favorite in Carolina. He will be joining Jaccob Slavin (USA), Sebastian Aho (Finland), Frederik Andersen, and Nikolaj Ehlers (Denmark) to represent their countries for the Hurricanes.

After the game, Jarvis added more of his thoughts on what was an amazing day that saw him be called to the Hockey Canada squad and a Hurricanes win. “It’s been a whirlwind. A lot of phone calls, a lot of questions. I’ve reached out to a couple of guys asking what to pack, because I have no idea, figuring out flights and everything. I’ll go home, throw some stuff in a suitcase, and head back here as soon as possible.”

It’s been a whirlwind of a season for Jarvis, who looks to set new career highs again for the Hurricanes as they push for their eighth consecutive trip to the playoffs. It was not even a day ago that it seemed like Jarvis would be taking a three-week break during the Olympics. Now, he has to pack and be ready for the charter flight with his teammates as they jet off to Milano-Cortina for the upcoming Winter Games, which start on Feb. 11 for the men’s hockey tournament.
