Kraken Sign Jordan Eberle to 2-Year Contract Extension – The Hockey Writers – Kraken Transactions

by Marcelo Moreira

On March 6, the Seattle Kraken announced they signed forward Jordan Eberle to a two-year contract extension with an average annual value (AAV) of $5.5 million.

Eberle has been with the Kraken since the beginning as he was claimed from the New York Islanders during the 2021 Expansion Draft. Before joining the Kraken, he spent 11 seasons between the Edmonton Oilers and the Islanders, where he played in 779 games and recorded 551 points. He recorded his career-high in points in his second season with the Oilers, where he recorded 76 in 78 games.

Eberle has since played 340 games with Seattle and has recorded 219 points. His best season in Seattle was 2022-23, when he recorded 63 points (20 goals and 43 assists).

When he arrived in Seattle, Eberle was deemed leadership material and served as an alternate captain alongside Yanni Gourde, Adam Larsson, and Jaden Schwartz. Mark Giordano was the Kraken captain in Seattle’s inaugural season. The team went without a captain for 2022-23 and 2023-24, but the four players wearing As remained the same. Ahead of 2024-25, he was named second captain in franchise history.

Eberle has been a valuable presence both on and off the ice fr the Kraken. He provides offensive skill, often playing on the right wing with center Matty Beniers and left wing Jared McCann. The Kraken locking in their captain for two more seasons is a great move, especially considering his performance this season; he currently leads the team in points with 42.

Eberle would have been an unrestricted free agent at the end of the season, meaning he could have been picked up by any team during free agency. By the time this contract expires, Eberle will be 38 years old.
