On Thursday, March 19, the Seattle Torrent faced off against the Montreal Victoire for their second matchup of the 2025-26 Professional Women’s Hockey League (PWHL) season. The first game resulted in a 2-1 win for Seattle.
The first period kicked off with no change in score, but the Victoire outshot the Torrent 10-6. The second period saw an even number of shots for both teams, but Montreal got on the board with two goals. In the final frame, the Torrent got on the board, but the Victoire scored two more unanswered goals to take a 4-1 win. The season series is now tied with one win for each team.
Carpenter Got the Torrent on the Board
By the third period, the Torrent were down by two goals. Seven minutes into the third, Danielle Serdachny had the puck by the boards and passed it to Theresa Schafzahl as she skated up to the net. Instead of taking the shot herself, she passed it to Alex Carpenter as she got in front of the net. She sent it into the empty space Ann-Renee Desbiens left to put the Torrent on the board.

This goal marked Carpenter’s eighth of the season, and she now has 14 points. With it, she now leads the Torrent with the most goals this season. She is one point behind the current overall leader, Julia Gosling. Last season, she scored 11 goals with the New York Sirens. With six more games to go, Carpenter has a chance to tie her personal best or set a new career high.
Schafzahl Recorded a Point in Her Torrent Debut
As mentioned above, Schafzahl recorded the primary assist on Carpenter’s goal. This game marked her debut with the Torrent after she was traded to the team on Monday, March 16. She came over from the Boston Fleet, and in exchange, Boston received forward Jessie Eldridge.
Schafzahl was a major part of Boston for the last two and a half seasons, playing in 69 games and recording 17 points. An assist in her first game with a new team is an incredible accomplishment, and Schafzahl should be proud.
Schafzahl’s career-high point total was set in the 2024 season when she recorded six points. This season, she had six points before she was traded to Seattle. With her assist in this game, her point total for the season is now seven. It may be recorded with two different teams, but Schafzahl already has a new career-high.
Barnes Back to the Blue Line
In the Torrent’s last game against the Toronto Sceptres, Cayla Barnes was shaken up after a hard hit into the boards. She remained on the bench, but she didn’t play in the third period. Barnes returned to the lineup in this game. She was a major part of Seattle’s defensive plays, keeping Abby Roque at bay on her jailbreak goal attempt. Barnes spent a total of 26:53 on the ice, recording the most ice time among the forwards and defenders alike.
With an already injured Torrent team, they couldn’t afford to lose players long-term anymore. It’s great to see Barnes back out there on the ice with her team, and her injury on Sunday was not too serious.
Torrent Back on Saturday
The Torrent will head down to Massachusetts to take on the Boston Fleet on Saturday, March 21. After three straight losses, they’ll look to take down the number one team in the standings in this game.
