Örebro HK U20’s Alexander Command is the perfect example of someone using their draft season to their advantage. He wasn’t talked about much at the start, but as the season went on, he became more noticeable and a player that garnered a lot of attention as he has become one of my favourites.

The Hockey Writers 2026 NHL Entry Draft Guide (The Hockey Writers)

This season, Command has impressed offensively, leading his team in scoring and finished ninth overall in league scoring with 17 goals and 44 points as a 17-year-old. In nine playoff games, he has nine points, showing his ability to still be productive and elevate his game at important moments. He’s a player that is relied on and it shows as the intensity, smarts and attention to detail is evident in his game.

Command’s trademark to his game is his high-end compete level and work ethic. There is hardly a shift where he’s on the ice and you don’t notice him getting involved in a play, a battle along the boards, disrupting plays to regain possession. He’s always aggressive on puck carriers and in the pursuit of loose pucks. He never shies away from the physical side as well as he has an edge and feistiness to his game that makes him succeed. If he has a chance to make a hit, he won’t hesitate to do so. He can provide great support for his teammates and shows great timing in order to step up and intercept pucks.

Whenever he has the puck, Command shows great confidence and poise when in control. He has great tendencies and has the patience to curl back and not force plays. When he does deal with pressure, he doesn’t panic and always gets himself out of trouble. He also displays great awareness and positioning, sneaking in undetected and finding the open ice. He always makes himself available to finish a play or creates that space to open things up and distribute it to his teammates. He’s always wanting to control the pace of a shift as there’s no slowing down to his game.

While he doesn’t have an elite skillset, everything he does remains effective. His smarts and ability to read the play as it unfolds alone makes him an offensive threat. He possesses a decent shot, as he can score in a variety of different ways; be it in tight, on a one-timer or off the rush. He’s not the quickest skater, but when he reaches top speed, he can attack defenders head on and can move flawlessly around them. He has great edge work and can cut to the inside and middle effectively to get to the danger areas.

Alexander Command- NHL Draft Projection

Command started off as a player that wasn’t on many radars to one that has quickly garnered attention as his season in the Nationell progressed. The production increased and his overall consistency with his game has made him a first-round candidate. He would provide great value for any team in the later part of that round as most outlets see him going between 20-32. Even if he doesn’t hear his name called on Day 1, it won’t be long before he gets taken off the board on Day 2.

Quotables

“He’s Örebro HK’s most promising young player, showing rapid development through the club’s junior ranks and earning valuable exposure at higher levels of competition. With a combination of offensive instinct, pace, and work ethic, Command has positioned himself as a name to watch for in the second half of this season.” – Viktor Ahlund, McKeen’s Hockey

“A toolsy centre who competes extremely hard and plays with a nasty bite. He wreaks havoc on the forecheck constantly disrupting breakouts with his speed and physicality. He punishes players who are between him and the puck, and once he gains possession, he has the skill to either find teammates in good scoring positions or drive the net and finish himself” – Ethan Lindley, Dobber Prospects

“Command is always involved, always energized, and always either on the puck or finding his way to it. He plays with finesse and clean, strong movements. His hands are quick and he gets pucks on net from all over the O-zone.” – Gabe Foley, Recruit Scouting

Strengths

  • Confident and effective with the puck
  • Strong compete, work ethic and physical play
  • Great spatial awareness and timing
  • Well-balanced skillset
  • Great support player in all areas

Under Construction- Improvements to Make

  • Not an explosive skater, but tough to stop when reaches top speed

NHL Potential

Command has the potential to be an extremely effective depth player on any team, especially if he’s in a third line, centre role. He can play an energy role, but can also bring that skill if you need to get the offense going and change the momentum of a game. He’s the kind of player that wants to make an impact and he’ll do that; be it establishing an attack, converting on his chances and being a real thorn in the opponent’s side. He can be impactful at even strength and a threat with his shot on the power play.
