The Winnipeg Jets have been eliminated from 2026 playoff contention.
The Los Angeles Kings defeating the Seattle Kraken 5-3 Monday night gave the Kings 89 points and rendered the final score of the Jets’ contest versus the Vegas Golden Knights — which the Jets were trailing in 6-2 at press time — moot. The Jets, with 82 points, could only get a maximum of 88 even with a win over the Golden Knights, hence needed a victory and a Kings’ loss to live another day.
The Jets hung around in the Western Conference wild-card race until now by going 13-6-4 since the Winter Olympic break, but had a very disappointing season overall marked with long stretches of profound struggles and underperformances.
They have the dubious distinction of being just the fifth reigning Presidents’ Trophy winner of all time to not qualify for the postseason. They also saw their three-year playoff streak snapped.
