The New Jersey Devils’ 2025-26 season ended suddenly, as the team missed the postseason with a 42-37-3 record. After a commanding start, the Devils collapsed when they returned from the Olympic break, resulting in their missing the playoffs. They will look to have an intense offseason to add depth, scoring, and strength on the blue line.
Every player on the roster contributed throughout the season, though some made a bigger impact. This installment highlights forward Cody Glass, who delivered a strong season.
Glass’ 2025-26 Performance With the Devils
This season was Glass’s first full season with the Devils. At the 2025 Trade Deadline, New Jersey traded Chase Stillman, Max Graham, and a 3rd-round pick in the 2027 NHL Draft to the Pittsburgh Penguins in exchange for Glass and Jonathan Gruden. He only played 14 regular-season games in 2024-25 with the Devils but recorded seven points. He also played in all five postseason games last season but didn’t record any points.
Glass signed a two-year contract extension with the Devils at the end of last season, locking him into his fourth team for his seventh season in the NHL. Glass played in 70 games and recorded 26 points via 19 goals and six assists. He sustained an upper-body injury on Nov. 12, but he was back in the lineup by Nov. 24. He also had another undisclosed injury on Jan. 27, but only missed one game.
He scored his first goal of the season in the Devils’ first game on Oct. 9 against the Carolina Hurricanes. The Devils were down by one, but Glass scored to tie up the game. Unfortunately, only Jesper Bratt scored again, and the Hurricanes scored four more goals to take the win.
Glass ended up recording four multi-point games, including two multi-goal games. His longest point streak was four points in three games. He also had three game-winning goals this season, including two consecutive goals on Jan. 20 and then their next game on Jan. 23.
Glass’ Impact on the Devils
Glass spent the majority of the season playing center on the third line. Even though he was playing on the bottom six, he still added great offensive depth to the team. His two-way play style wasn’t on display as much this season, but he still did a great job producing points and earned a plus-3 for the season.
With Jack Hughes and Nico Hischier on the team, they will remain the two top-six centers. Glass did a great job fulfilling his role on the third line and will continue to do so next season.
Glass’ Future with the Devils
Glass is about to enter the final year of his two-year contract with the Devils. He signed the extension at the end of last season and is expected to become an unrestricted free agent (UFA) at the end of 2026-27, when he turns 28 years old.
Glass is a strong third-line center for the Devils and has proven that he is capable of producing offensively. Whether or not he receives another contract extension will be determined by his performance in the upcoming season. Glass has a lot riding on 2026-27.
Glass’ Overall Grade
For the 2025-26 season, Glass’ overall grade is a B+. He stepped up his production and recorded his second-highest career point total out of his seven seasons in the NHL. He has a great offensive eye, which the Devils often need. He fulfills his role in the bottom six well as the third line center.
Even though he is not a defenseman, he could work on his defensive play for the next season. Overall, he stepped up considerably in his first season with the Devils. It will be great to see if he can continue this trend in the 2026-27 season.
