Maple Leafs Hire Front Office Duo of John Chayka & Mats Sundin – The Hockey Writers – Toronto Maple Leafs

The Toronto Maple Leafs have announced that they have hired the front office duo of Mats Sundin and John Chayka.

The news comes late on Sunday afternoon, after it had been rumoured to be announced Monday. Now, that the announcement has been made, Leafs Nation expects the duo to get to work and make other moves in the coming weeks.

The signing of Sundin and Chayka was expected, especially after the recent reports from numerous insiders. In a statement from Maple Leafs Sports Entertainment’s president and CEO Keith Pelley, he had said it is an important day for the organization.

“Today is an important day for the Toronto Maple Leafs organization,” Maple Leafs Sports and Entertainment president and CEO Keith Pelley said in a statement. “I’m thrilled to welcome John and Mats to their roles, two great hockey minds that will strengthen our entire hockey club. From the start of this process, it’s been about building a championship-calibre team for our fans and our city and today is an important step towards that goal.” 

Pelley is right; this is an important day for the Maple Leafs’ organization. Now, all the fanbase hopes is that this is the right move and that together, they can help lead this team back to the playoffs. And, hopefully even be the front office that helps this organization hoist the Stanley Cup for the first time since 1967.
