Seattle Kraken’s 2025-26 Report Cards: Adam Larsson – The Hockey Writers – Seattle Kraken

The 2025-26 season was a roller coaster for the Seattle Kraken. They had their best start ever and won their first home opener ever in their five seasons in the league. The Kraken were primed to take a playoff spot by American Thanksgiving, which is usually a decent indicator of who will make the postseason. With two major downswings in December and at the end of the season, the Kraken ended the 2025-26 season with a final record of 34-37-11. 

At the end of the day, there is no one person to blame for the Kraken’s 2025-26 season demise. Hockey is a team sport, and this was a team effort in the end. Each player did their part to try and give Seattle a fighting chance at the postseason, but unfortunately, it was not enough. Some players had better performances than others. In the first installment of the 2025-26 Kraken report cards, we’ll analyze and grade defenseman Adam Larsson’s performance.

2025-26 Performance

Larsson played in all 82 games for the Kraken this season. He was the only player, other than Matty Beniers, to do so. Since he was selected by the Kraken from the Edmonton Oilers in their expansion draft, Larsson has only missed one game with Seattle during the 2023-24 season to attend the birth of his daughter. 

Larsson was awarded a silver stick this season after reaching 1,000 total NHL games. He became the third player to reach this milestone while playing with the Kraken, following Mark Giordano and Jordan Eberle, the Kraken’s first two captains. Considering Larsson also wears an “A”, marking him as an alternate captain. The Kraken’s leadership group is centered around a strong veteran presence. 

In the 2025-26 season, Larsson recorded 25 points via seven goals and 18 assists. He recorded his first point in the Kraken’s home opener on Oct. 9, recording an assist on Vince Dunn’s goal, which happened to be the first of any Kraken player for the season. It took him until Nov. 15 to score his first goal, but he did record three more assists before that. He had two multi-point games this season. 

On April 6, the Kraken made significant changes to the line combinations, which had a major impact on Larsson. He and Dunn have been defensive partners since 2022; the only time they did not play together was when Dunn was injured, and Larsson missed one game. For the first time since the pairings had worked together, the defensive pairings were split up. Larsson remained on the first defensive pairing and was partnered with Ryker Evans. Dunn was moved to the third pairing and was partnered with Cale Fleury. This only lasted two games, and by April 9, Dunn and Larsson were back on the same defensive pairing. 

Impact With Seattle 

Larsson is a major part of the Kraken’s blue line. He has been on the first defensive pairing since 2022, and there is a strong reason why. He is a consistently strong defensive player and even has a great offensive eye as well. 

This was the first season since 2019-20 with the Oilers where he recorded a neutral plus/minus. Since 2022-23, his plus/minus rating has been positive. While this wasn’t his best performance for the season, he didn’t hit the negatives, which is a good sign. 

Future With Seattle 

On Sept. 11, 2024, Larsson signed a four-year contract with an average annual value (AAV) of $5.25 million. The 2024-25 season was the final one of his previous four-year contract, the one he signed when the Kraken selected him in the expansion draft. 

This season kicked off his current contract, and he has three more seasons under it. He will become an unrestricted free agent after the 2028-29 season, when he turns 36. Of course, there are always trades that could happen, but Larsson has been a pillar of the Kraken’s defense since the beginning; it wouldn’t surprise me if he remains for the three seasons he has left on his contract. 

Overall Grade 

For the 2025-26 season, Larsson receives a B-. His point production took a dip, but only by three points. His plus/minus was neutral, instead of a positive, which is something all defensemen should strive for. However, he was consistently strong on the Kraken’s first defensive pairing. He is a consistent pillar on the Kraken’s defense and will continue to be for the next few seasons.
