by virtualnews.2x

BBC Scotland is to provide live television coverage of Rangers’ Champions League qualifying visit to Panathinaikos.

Russell Martin’s side play the second leg at the Athens Olympic Stadium on 30 July, with a 19:00 BST kick-off.

The first leg of the second round qualifier is at Ibrox on 22 July.

Like Rangers, Panathinaikos finished distant runners-up last season, trailing 16 points behind Olympiakos in the Greek Super League.

Rangers progressed on the old away goals rule when the teams last met in the 2007-08 Uefa Cup, with a 0-0 stalemate in Glasgow followed by a 1-1 draw in Athens in the round of 32.

Panathinaikos beat Rangers 3-1 at Ibrox and drew 1-1 at home in the Champions League group stage in 2003.

Rangers lost to Dinamo Kyiv in the third qualifying round last season, going on to reach the the Europa League quarter-finals, where they were beaten by Athletic Bilbao.

Panathinaikos were eliminated from Europa League qualifying after a penalty shootout with Ajax and got as far as the last 16 in the Conference League last term.

The Greek club have not reached the group phase of Europe’s premier tournament since 2010-11, while Rangers last featured in 2022-23.
