Here is the latest news and updates on the Buffalo Sabres and their schedule for the week of Feb. 9 – Feb. 16, 2026.
Sabres Enter Olympic Break in Playoff Spot
Even though the Sabres entered the Olympic break with a 1-2-1 record in their final four games, they are still in a playoff spot. With a 32-19-6 record and 70 points, they sit one point ahead of the Boston Bruins in the first wild-card spot in the Eastern Conference.
Sabres Looking to Add “Beef” to Blue Line
According to Sportsnet’s Elliotte Friedman in his latest 32 Thoughts column, the Sabres could be interested in acquiring a “beefier” blueliner ahead of the March 6 Trade Deadline. The Sabres have not had a consistent third pairing all season, and they will want to add blueline depth for a playoff run.
Logan Stanley of the Winnipeg Jets comes to mind. At 6-foot-7 and 231 pounds, Stanley is having a career year, while the Jets sit near the bottom of the Western Conference standings with only 52 points. He has nine goals and 18 points in 54 games this season.
Olympics Start Wednesday, Feb. 11, 2026
The men’s Olympic hockey tournament starts this Wednesday, Feb. 11, at 10:40 am ET with Slovakia taking on Finland. The only other game that day is Sweden vs. the host nation, Italy, at 3:10 ET. The bulk of the games start on Thursday, with four games scheduled, beginning with Switzerland vs. France, then Czechia vs. Canada, Germany vs. Denmark and finally, Latvia vs. the USA.
The Sabres have two players participating in the 2026 Winter Olympics. Tage Thompson will be representing Team USA, and Rasmus Dahlin will be representing Team Sweden. Unfortunately, Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen, who was supposed to represent Team Finland, will not be participating due to an injury suffered in the last week of January.
