Micah Parsons made a massive impact on the ferocious Green Bay Packers defense in his first two games with the team, and the NFC North contenders look like obvious winners from the blockbuster trade that went down just over a week before the season opener. Packers fans mocked Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones after their Week 2 win over the Washington Commanders, chanting “Thank you, Jerry!” after he shipped Parsons off to Green Bay in a shocking transaction.
Jones has long been a centerpiece of criticism throughout his run in the Cowboys’ front office, and the questions about his leadership intensified this offseason as he and Parsons faced a prolonged standoff in contract negotiations. His own fans booed and chanted at him in training camp. As such, the latest response from Packers fans was par for the course in Jones’ relationship with the rest of the league.
“The way Green Bay is playing, I’m all for them enjoying, chanting anything that they really want. I understand that,” Jones said Friday on 105.3 The FAN. “If you make a move on a top player, this shouldn’t surprise anybody that we would have that kind of reaction from their fanbase, the other team’s fanbase, or for that matter our fanbase in general. I knew this was coming almost the day I walked into training camp. I knew that if I got to make this trade, that this would be there incoming.”
Parsons tallied 1.5 sacks across Green Bay’s first two games despite playing on a limited snap count. He wreaked havoc on Commanders quarterback Jayden Daniels on Thursday with seemingly endless pressure. His production is already off the charts, so it is no wonder why the Packers faithful is so vocal about his arrival.
Tensions grew between Parsons and Jones in a drawn-out negotiation process that dated back to 2023. Parsons requested a trade out of Dallas shortly after training camp opened this summer, and rather than finally bending to meet his star pass rusher’s demands, Jones made a deal with an NFL rival to move him off his roster.
Parsons has a chance to make a statement on the field in two weeks when he squares off against his former team. The Packers travel to Dallas in Week 4.
“Obviously, you know, my family and everyone’s looking forward to it,” Parsons said of the looming return to Dallas. “But you know, I’m just going to let my actions talk. It’s just gonna be funny, because all my friends are there. … So just going against those guys, it’s going to be heartbreaking, but, damn, I’m excited for the matchup.”
