The Dallas Stars have acquired defenseman Tyler Myers from the Vancouver Canucks for a 2027 second-round pick and 2029 fourth-round pick, as per insider Pierre LeBrun.
Myers, a towering 6-foot-8 229 pounder, had been sat out for roster management purposes for all three of the Canucks’ games coming out of the Olympic break.
Stars Acquire Defensive Depth Ahead of Deadline
In Myers, the Stars, who sit second in the Central Division with 85 points and have Stanley Cup aspirations, are getting another veteran to add to a strong blue line that already features Thomas Harley, Miro Heiskanen, and Esa Lindell. While Myers does not post strong puck possession metrics and is past his prime at 36, he can still be effective in a sheltered role.
The 2008 12th-overall pick of the Buffalo Sabres has recorded 100 goals and 303 assists for 403 points along with 1,395 hits and 1,730 blocked shots in 1123-career games between the Sabres, Winnipeg Jets, and Canucks. He has one goal and seven assists for eight points in 57 games this season and 82 games of playoff experience.
Myers first signed with the Canucks as a free agent in the 2019 offseason and is currently in the second year of a three-year deal worth $3 million per year he signed in 2024.
The Canucks will retain 50 per cent of Myers’ salary for the remainder of his contract, meaning he will only cost the Stars $1.5 million this season and next.
Cellar-Dwelling Canucks Continue Selloff
Trading Myers is the latest move in the Canucks’ ongoing selloff. The team, sitting in last place in the entire NHL with 18 wins and 43 points, already dealt franchise defenseman Quinn Hughes to the Minnesota Wild in December and power-forward Kiefer Sherwood to the San Jose Sharks in January.

The Canucks have seven picks in the upcoming 2026 NHL Entry Draft, including two first rounders and two second rounders. They have nine picks in the 2027 Draft, eight picks in the 2028 Draft, and eight picks in the 2029 Draft.
