The Toronto Maple Leafs have announced that they’ve called up goaltender Dennis Hildeby from the Toronto Marlies of the American Hockey League (AHL).
This news comes ahead of the team’s practice before they head to Boston today for their game against the Boston Bruins tomorrow night. This call-up corresponds with the injury that happened to Anthony Stolarz on Saturday night against the Ottawa Senators.
Hildeby Recalled by Maple Leafs
Hildeby has finally gotten another chance to join the Maple Leafs this season. Unfortunately, it comes following the injury to Stolarz, who took a puck to the throat area off a shot from William Nylander on Saturday night. He was taken to the hospital for precautionary imaging to make sure everything was okay. He was later released and joined the team on the plane back home.
However, today, although Stolarz was on the ice, Hildeby was recalled. Depending on how things go with Stolarz, Hildeby could get a lengthy look at the NHL level, which he deserves with how well he has played this season. In 19 NHL games, he has a 5-6-4 record with a .912 save percentage and a 2.84 goals-against average. In the AHL with the Marlies, he has played in 17 games and posted a record of 7-5-5 with a .901 save percentage and a 2.54 goals-against average.

Obviously, we will find out over the next 24 hours what is wrong with Stolarz and, if he is out, how long he will be out for. That will then give us an answer on how long Hildeby will be with the NHL club.
The Maple Leafs do have a back-to-back on Tuesday and Wednesday against the Bruins and the New York Rangers on the road. It wouldn’t be shocking to see Hildeby get a start against one of these two teams.
