Here is the latest news and updates around the Toronto Maple Leafs and their schedule for the week of April 13 to April 19, 2026.
Last Week of the Season
The Maple Leafs are entering the final week of the season, and it feels very weird. For almost the last decade they’ve been a permanent fixture in the playoffs, but after the brutal season, they failed to make it and now appear to be entering a retool.
After firing their general manager Brad Treliving on March 30th, they have spent the last two weeks trying to find a replacement. Still without, the search continues, as does the season, which just about everyone in Toronto would end so this nightmare can be over.

Unfortunately, the “nightmare” doesn’t really end, though. Yes, on the ice it does, but now the fanbase needs to sit back and watch the retool unfold. Which could see the end of the Auston Matthews and William Nylander era if they decide to move on and ask out of Toronto. It is going to be a very hard and gruelling offseason, one that Leafs Nation hasn’t endured since before Matthews was drafted. The only hope is they can find a way to fix the team and they finally have success on the ice.
Maple Leafs Eyeing Draft Lottery
With Toronto’s loss against the Florida Panthers on Saturday night, the Maple Leafs fell into the bottom-five of the league. Therefore, increasing their chances of getting their 2026 first-round pick back from the Boston Bruins. From an organizational perspective, the optimal scenario, despite its potential drawbacks for the players, is to refrain from scoring in the final two games of the season. This strategy would enhance their prospects, particularly if they are overtaken by the New York Rangers or Calgary Flames, thereby securing a position within the bottom three teams.
However, at this point, they now own the fifth spot heading into the NHL Draft Lottery on May 5th. If things stay the same, they’ll have a 24.5% chance of retaining the fifth pick. That said, if they can get past the Rangers or Flames, that increases to a 44.6% chance. Right now, as it stands, they have an 8.5% chance of landing the top pick in the 2026 NHL Draft. Which is doable. Last year, the New York Islanders moved up 10 spots from 11th and landed the first overall pick to select Matthew Schaefer.
