The Philadelphia Flyers enter the final week of the 2025–26 regular season with one goal in mind: win, and they’re in the playoffs. In this week-ahead piece, we look at their clinching scenarios, the excellence of young forwards Porter Martone and Matvei Michkov, and the closing schedule.
How the Flyers Can Clinch the Playoffs
The Flyers can clinch the playoffs—where they’d be certain to visit the Pittsburgh Penguins as the third-place team in the Metropolitan Division—very simply. If they beat the Carolina Hurricanes on Monday, it’s a done deal.
That opportunity extends to the last game of the season, against the Montreal Canadiens. If the Flyers win that one, they’d also clinch. One point against both clubs would get the job done, too.

The final scenario where the Flyers can clinch is by getting just one point against either Carolina or Montreal, but they’d need help. If the Columbus Blue Jackets defeat the Washington Capitals in any fashion on Tuesday, the Orange and Black get in just by getting to overtime once in their final two contests.
Suffice it to say, things are looking good on Broad Street. Hockey Stats’ model gives the Flyers an 82% chance of making the playoffs, which doesn’t account for the possibility of Carolina and/or Montreal resting some of their players due to already clinching themselves.
Martone and Michkov Are Leading the Way
Over the last two dozen or so games, the Flyers’ entire team has really bought in. Everyone deserves credit if they prevent what would be the longest playoff drought in franchise history. However, two youngsters have been particularly outstanding: Martone and Michkov.
Let’s start with the team’s broader stretch of success. Since Feb. 26, the Flyers have the second-best points percentage in the NHL at .717, boasting a record of 16–6–1. During that span, Michkov’s 18 points rank second on the team, only trailing linemate Noah Cates’ 19. This is despite averaging just over 15 minutes of ice time per game.
Since Martone made his debut on March 31, the youngsters are tied for the team lead in points, with seven in as many games. The kids are driving this run.
