Rankings

Chase Harrington is an opportunistic power forward. He is a high-energy guy who is willing to make a big hit to embolden his team. He makes for a very fun highlight-reel watch if you enjoy bone-crunching body checks.

His best attribute is his physicality. He’s got a great mean streak, and he uses it well, dishing out insane hits. His 105 penalty minutes from last season prove he’s willing to be an enforcer. He’s got great defensive instincts on top of being a physical beast. He’s great at reading defenseman’s eyes and intercepting outlet passes in the opponent’s zone.

Offensively, he has solid finishing abilities up close. He’s more of a complementary player than a driver of the line, but he’s good at swerving a puck past a goaltender up close. There were also flashes of an impressive playmaker in his game, as he made some great passes on odd-man rushes.

He improved offensively from last season, but not as much as I expected. He improved his goal-scoring tremendously, notching 28 this season after just 19 last season. Still, with his talent and the fact that he is on a line with highly-skilled right-winger Mathis Preston, I would’ve expected him to notch over a point per game.

Still, he’s going to be a pesky energy forward coming into the NHL. Think of a similar player to Zach Ostapchuk of the San Jose Sharks. Ostapchuk had 140 hits last season, and I think Harrington could reach at least 70-80 a season. If he could improve his shot, he could play similarly to Cole Sillinger of the Columbus Blue Jackets, too.

Chase Harrington – NHL Draft Projection

Harrington should be a late second-rounder in the 2026 NHL Draft. At worst, he’d slide into the top 10 picks of the third round due to his limited offensive upside, but no further. Teams like the Edmonton Oilers or Tampa Bay Lightning could be good fits for Harrington.

Quotables

“Harrington is a rambunctious power-forward who never passes up the opportunity to dish out a thunderous hit, and his 42 PIM show how mean he is. The reason he’s rated so highly though is the fact that he’s quite skilled, skates very well, is a very well-balanced two-way competitor, and though he is often seen supporting Preston’s efforts he is capable of driving play himself.” — Chris Ralph Shankara, Substack

“Just the way he goes into the gritty areas that not all top skill guys are willing to do. I think he’s a winner. He loves to compete in practice. He has lots of fun doing. He loves the game. He brings lots of energy to the rink every day in the dressing room.” — Mathis Preston, via the Prince George Citizen

Strengths

  • Relentless forechecker who causes turnovers in the opposing zone
  • High motor and energy on the ice
  • Always willing to make a big hit to motivate the bench
  • Skilled two-way capabilities and decent finish
  • Good at getting rebounds

Under Construction/Improvements

  • Showed flashes of being a skilled passer, but needs to be more consistent
  • Good skating, but average burst and acceleration
  • Limited high-end creativity or dynamic puck skill
  • Snapshot also showed potential, but not a defined part of his game

NHL Potential

Harrington has the feel of developing into an ideal bottom-six winger. He’ll get a lot of penalty kill time, and if he improves his shot, he could see second-line minutes.

He’ll have a great plus/minus each season and be near the top of teams in hits and blocked shots. He’ll be a good power forward who will be tough to play against.
