Rankings
When watching Marcus Nordmark, you can see the potential that has made him one of the top international -born prospects for the 2026 NHL Draft. He really opened the eyes of scouts and many in the hockey world with his play at the 2025 Hlinka Gretzky Cup with Sweden. He put his entire offensive game on display and led the entire tournament in scoring with 12 points.
What stands out most about Nordmark’s offensive play is the great mix of playmaking and goal-scoring ability he has. With the puck on his stick, he is not rushed into making plays and is very calm and confident. He sees the ice very well and has elite-level passing abilities to find a teammate when given the space to do so. If he doesn’t have the space to make a pass or fire the puck on net, he has high-end puck-handling skills to maneuver through or around opponents to get into a spot to make a play. His shot is a bit underrated, as he has a great mid-range wrist shot that comes with great accuracy and a quick release, making him a threat to be a goal-scorer or a distributor.
While the calmness and confidence can be seen as a positive with his game, it is also a bit of a detriment, as he doesn’t necessarily play with a lot of pace. Playing on a bigger ice surface in Sweden, he is able to get away with this a bit more, but a big question mark is how this will translate to a smaller ice surface in North America. He also tends to hang out to the puck too long when trying to make a play as this is tied in with his pace of play.
On the defensive side of the puck, Nordmark doesn’t play overly physical, but is sound enough and responsible on his own end of the ice when he is fully activated. The biggest issue with his defensive game is the consistency and being in-tune on his end of the ice. He will need to add more strength to his frame and play more physically as he develops and matures. Overall, the Swedish-born winger has plenty to like with his offensive game to catch the eye of an NHL organization come the end of June. A strong showing at the Under-18 World Junior Championship (WJC) could very easily help his draft value as well.

Marcus Nordmark- NHL Draft Projection
With the offensive game that Nordmark has, and the potential to become a true threat as he continues to develop and mature, he should hear his name being called in the 20-25 range, maybe sooner if an organization believes he can take the next jump in playing with a bit more pace and work on his consistency with his motor.
Quotables
“Nordmark always seems to be the focal point of play. Whether he’s driving with pace, creating plays low in the zone, or trailing high – the puck seems to find his stick every shift. He turns those chances into strong shots on net and reactive plays on the puck. Nordmark can command the cycle and find the seams in a defense.”- Gabriel Foley
“What stands out most about Nordmark is his ability to create in one-on-one situations and off the cycle. He’s at his best when he can isolate a defender and attack with changes of pace in open ice….While he shows flashes of brilliance with the puck, there is room for improvement in his two-way game. Away from the puck, he can be passive at times, which makes it difficult to project him to a higher level down the line.”- Jacob Smeds, The Hockey News
“Nordmark blends high-end skill and hockey sense to create high-quality chances in the offensive zone. He routinely picks apart opponents in his own age group and has been truly dominant internationally. But scouts are worried that he’s a ghost defensively and that if he doesn’t dominate offensively, he won’t be good enough to crack the NHL.”- Steven Ellis, Daily Faceoff
Strengths
- Plays with calmness with the puck on his stick
- Good vision and hockey IQ: he sees the ice very well
- High-level passing ability
- High confidence level with the puck on his stick
- Puckhandling is top-notch
- High-end shot from mid-range: wrist shot is lethal and has a quick release to it
- Has the capability to be a game-breaker when he is fully engaged
Under Construction/ Improvements to Make
- Motor and intensity lack at times, and he plays a slow-paced game
- Defensive game is solid, but still needs refinement; he does not play with a ton of physicality
- Has a tendency to jump the defensive zone, looking to get going offensively too early
- Does not have the speed to break away from opponents
- As with many young players, he needs to add some strength to his frame
NHL Potential
The offensive skill set that Nordmark already has gives him the potential to be a middle-six winger who can be on a power play unit and be a real threat. If he can continue to work on his defensive game and improve the motor and work ethic he has, he could end up being a second-line winger who can be a difference maker at both ends of the ice.
