Edmonton Oilers prospects Issac Howard and Quinn Hutson of the Bakersfield Condors have been named to the 2025-26 American Hockey League (AHL) All-Rookie Team, which was announced on Wednesday (April 15).
Joining Howard and Hutson on the AHL All-Rookie Team are fellow forward Ilya Protas of the Hershey Bears, defencemen Tyson Jugnauth of the Coachella Valley Firebirds and Dmitri Simashev of the Tucson Roadrunners, and goalie Sergei Murashov of Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins.
Hutson has scored 30 times and added 31 assists in 65 games, while Howard has totalled 22 goals and 25 assists in 45 games. The two rookies rank second and fourth, respectively, on the Condors with 61 points and 47 points.
Voters for the All-Rookie Team included coaches, players and media representing each of the AHL’s 32 member cities.
First Time Ever for Oilers
This marks the first time that the Oilers have had two prospects make the AHL All-Rookie Team in the same season. They are also the first Condors players to be selected since forward Tyler Benson in 2018-19.
Notably, neither Howard nor Hutson were drafted by Edmonton: The former was acquired via trade from the Tampa Bay Lightning (in exchange for forward prospect Sam O’Reilly) and then signed to a three-year entry level contract (ELC) during the 2025 offseason, while the latter was signed as a free-agent to a two-year ELC last April (Hutson has since inked a two-year extension with the Oilers, in January).
Both skaters are NCAA Division 1 products. Howard played at the University of Minnesota-Duluth in 2022-23 before transferring to Michigan State University, where he spent two years, winning the Hobey Baker Award in 2024-25. Hutson spent his entire college career at Boston University, playing three seasons with the Terriers from 2022-23 to 2024-25.
Hutson Ranks First in Goals
Hutson is leading all AHL rookies in goals and trails Protas by three points for the rookie lead. He also ranks first among rookies with 12 power-play goals and leads Bakersfield with 28 power-play points. Hutson fired 195 shots on goal, most among all AHL rookies and tops on his team.
The winger was named AHL Rookie of the Month for December, when he racked up nine goals, including four on the power play, and added four assists in eight games.
Howard Averages Most Points
Howard is the only AHL rookie to have appeared in 45 or more games that is averaging at least a point per game (he’s currently at 1.04 points per game). The left winger has scored five game-winning goals, tied for most on the Condors and second among AHL rookies.
In a span of six games from Dec. 13 to 31, Howard totalled three points four times. He notched his first career hat trick on Dec. 20, scoring all Bakersfield’s goals in a 3-2 victory over the Firebirds.
Future Is Bright for Oilers Prospects
The future looks bright for Howard and Hutson, which is welcome news for an Oilers team that in recent years has traded away many prospects and upcoming draft picks to acquire players that can contribute now.
Both have already made their NHL debuts: Hutson appeared in two games with Edmonton last April and has suited up for four Oilers games this season, scoring his first NHL goal. Howard, meanwhile, has spent a significant chunk of this season in the NHL, appearing in 29 games with the Oilers, totalling two goals and three assists.
